About this test
The Generalised Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) asks how often over the last two weeks you have been bothered by seven things β feeling nervous or on edge, not being able to stop worrying, worrying about too many different things, trouble relaxing, restlessness, irritability, and a sense that something awful might happen. Scores run from 0 to 21.
It was designed for generalised anxiety but performs reasonably well as a general screen for panic, social anxiety and PTSD too. That is why a GP or psychiatrist will often start here before working out which kind of anxiety is involved.
Anxiety and depression overlap heavily β a great many people who score highly on one also score highly on the other. If both apply to you, that is common and it is treatable.
